Turns out the ignorance of geography was wholly the army's and that indeed all the available posts are deep inside the OT. The buses to the settlements will be leaving this morning and ijon will refuse to go on them. He'll be taken later today to a local command centre to be tried.

So it goes,
J.

...and please convey my support next time you talk to him. (Saying: "that crazy Shunra person says to convey her support" is just fine...)

They're not being stupid. THey're hoping he isn't firm in his principles.

The thinking goes: well, it's not occupied territories because there aren't any of those pesky Arab towns and villages around.

Sadly I have met enough soldiers when I was in the army and there are many many idiots in the army, the higher the rank the smaller the brain.
In this case they are not only stupid enough to hope that people would give up their principles(and in some cases their lives)to guard a bunch of loonies and their sacred piece of land, they are also stupid enough to hope that these people never learned geography:
He informed his local commanders of his refusal to serve in the OT and they took it under consideration and offered him to be posted at part of the area his unit will be deployed in, which is outside the OT. However, according to the 1949 ceasefire map, that area is deep inside the OT as well...

My guess is that it is a management technique, something like corralling cattle. Each individual step (if you've shown up, why not do the training already? if you've done the training, why not get on the bus? if you're refusing to harm Arab people, that's fine, but there aren't any Arabs here, so why not stand here at the gate?) is made to look tiny, but it moves the herd of moose closer to the edge of the cliff.

I remember when the [expletive deleted] orthodox community tried to push me into being Jewish that way. The intellectual dishonesty is what pushed me out, eventually.

I know Ijon is a strong man. It's *hard* to buck convincing arguments.

Well,as we all know ijon is no ordinary moose :)and as such I hope that they will not punish him for having a mind of his own and morals.
