random TAU update
I've just finished writing my paper for the Dickens: Bleak House course I took early last year. I shall submit it tomorrow, a mere seventeen months overdue. *sigh*

one down, seven to go.

Surely, you mean Charles Dikkens, the well-known Dutch author... :)

Good for you! hang in there.

Thanks!

Um, I asked for an extension a loooong time ago, and she just said "hand it in whenever you can..." I'm actually displaying a lot of chutzpah in submitting it as late as this.

Sure! But you'll have to read Dickens's Bleak House first. It's a fantastic masterpiece. One of the finest books I've ever read. Really.

Tell you what...

I'm afraid I'd really like my paper to be read with full context, i.e. after your having read Bleak House. So let me know when you have, and I'll send the paper then.

If you're just curious to read a paper of mine, and not the Dickens paper specifically, I'll gladly show you a different one. I suppose the closest one to the field you studied yourself would be a midterm paper I wrote for the Chaucer course, on a passage from The Pardoner's Tale in the Canterbury Tales. How about that?

Though I love reading papers [I find that I get a lot from it],
in this case I specifically wanted to read the one on BH, and
I specifically wanted to to that *before* reading the novel
[I had / still have my reasons].
As I recall, you had your own reasons for wanting me to read
the novel first, but that didn't happen till now and isn't likely
to happen soon [for the lack of both time and willingness].

My desire to read your paper still remains.
Are you more flexible these days...? ;)

Thanks! *blush*

I hope it's decent. I've written better. I must focus on what's ahead now: three seminar papers, one proseminar (Livy!), four papers. Ur, that makes eight! Gah!

I don't believe it.

Isn't that the paper you needed the Nabukov book for? After letting me wait for so long, you actually finished it without the book???
Anyway, congratulations...

Yes, that's the one. Following the saga of not lending you the book for so long, on what turned out to be false premises, I was too embarrassed to ask for it back for finishing the paper (half-written since February), so I actually borrowed a TAU library copy... :)

Now, read Bleak House!

Seventeen months? Pah! I got away with papers older than the hills, written in an ancient tongue...

...which reminds me:
Sir Leicester Dedlock is only a baronet, but there is no mightier baronet than he. His family is as old as the hills, and infinitely more respectable. He has a general opinion that the world might get on without hills but would be done up without Dedlocks.

שלום אסף,

האם יש באפשרותך לסייע לי במציאת חומר אודות פוליביוס (שלצערי, לא מצאתי ברשת בעברית).

תודה מראש.
