More HUJI Uncertainty
Another letter from HUJI -- I have been officially accepted to the Classical Studies Dept., i.e. they ask me to make the down payment. The same letter mentioned that as regards my Literature Dept. application, a decision cannot be reached, as my psychometric exam results are still missing.

I wonder, could it be that my letter of appeal (requesting that they take my SAT scores instead of asking me to take the Israeli exam) has been read only by the Classical Studies folks? Or are the Lit folks just taking their time? But if so, why couldn't they write something like "we're still reviewing your appeal"? Because the university is an impersonal bureaucracy?

Oh well. Still no word from TAU. Bah.

The thing is, both departments are handled by the same secretary. I don't know if she's dealing with admissions, however. It may very well prove helpful to simply call her and inquire about the discrepancy and possible ways to handle it. I can easily get you the phone number should you want it, just don't have it under my fingertips at the moment.

Judging from my experience with the British HE system, Israeli universities are more than just impersonal bureaucracies. They are _inefficient_ impersonal bureaucracies. That's much, much worse.

In any case, good luck, and arm yourself with plenty of patience. It works every time.

Be prepared to become a royal pain in HUJI's butt. Otherwise, they'll just keep on playing stupid and saying "don't worry, we're working on it".
Alas, that's the way big businesses are... *sigh*
