Oy.
Today I am experiencing what I think is a precursor to academic burnout. I find it alarming.

clarification: I don't mean burning out due to effort or frustration with specific tasks. I mean burnout with the idea of the academy, or rather with the idea of being part of it.

Right. That's what I meant. It comes and goes, don't worry too much about it.

The cure is often simple

To wit: a *really* hot shower. A nap. A walk to the beach and some time observing it. A walk back from the beach. Brisk physical activity (of the kind that you simply don't want to *THINK* of when you're burnt out) is one of the best ways of combatting burn-out.

To avoid it, figure all of the above into daily and weekly schedules. Especially the sleep bit (no, you don't need daily naps; however, you do need a certain minimal amount of sleep, and you need to get it at more-or-less regular hours. If you fail to get it, you'll burn like a bonfire.)

Oh, and check your nutrition. Have you eaten enough fresh salads lately? Regular, healthy meals (with less carbohydrates in them and more veggies) go a LONG way towards maintaining the human body, despite stress.

I think you need a new perspective on things. A brief change of scenery.
