I understand why you'll all so appalled, but blaming it on disregard for the humanities is simply unfair. It's all simple math.
These are hard times for the universities, and everybody's taking cuts where-ever possible. This condition can be reversed in a matter of years, is financial conditions allow for it. The current generation of scholars in these fields will need anywhere between 5 years to a full decade to mature into notable scholars in foreign institutions. When that happens, they can return to Israel and invigorate the shoddy remains of our higher education system. But we must focus now on making it a financially viable academy.
