Good News for Israel
For a change, I found good news in the paperynet (Hebrew): Israeli court overruled the (ultra-orthodox) mayor of Jerusalem's decision to ban the gay Pride Parade in Jerusalem. Not only was the decision struck down, but the mayor himself, who has acted against the advice of the city's legal team, is now made to personally take part in financing the parade, in the sum of 30,000 NIS!

Among all the battles liberty loses in Israel every day, here's one victory, one small blow against bigotry and ignorance, and the credit goes once again to the justice system.

See, that sort of outcome makes me envious. In the US, the courts would order the parade permitted, but the city budget would be penalized, and the responsible officials would wouldn't pay a dime.

Why I don't share your joy? Our rainbow friends should've respect others' as well. The same 30K NIS I would see going into wireless infrastructure in the city center.

*evil chuckle* Wonderful.

"Sir, the court pronounces you an idiot. How much of an idiot? $30,000."

NIS, my dear. NIS.
Remind me not to consult with you on any saving plans... ;-)

I was wondering who'd pick the obvious nit.

There's a bit of hope, then. Though from year to year it seems worse and worse.
