Latin Study Group: The Day

Alright, we seem to have a sizeable group assembled already. Let's move on:

1. The Place: as I said in my original invitation, my place at Bavli is the default meeting place, but it's a little small for our group (I realize a few may drop out early on, but right now we're about a dozen people). Does any of the participants have better facilities for a dozen people? If so, speak up.

2. The Day of the Week: According to the poll, these are the best alternatives. I therefore ask all of you to vote again, in this new and narrower poll, so we can finalize the day.

Remember: Check all times that work for you, not just your preference. Inevitably, some won't be able to make it on the time we finally choose; to maximize the number of people who can make it, let's all be as flexible as we can. Thank you. I'll announce the final day on Sunday, when everyone has had time to fill the poll. We can begin immediately afterwards; I'll be making a group purchase for the interested parties before the first session (details to follow).

The Wheelock Latin Books Group Purchase

I've done some price comparison, and it seems the cheapest offer, including airmail shipping, is from Cheaper than,,, and It comes to ~85 NIS per book, including shipping. There is a chance the VAT people would intercept the package, in which case it would come to almost 100 NIS. That's still cheaper than all other alternatives.

The books would arrive about two weeks from the day we order. Since we want to begin soon, we should order ASAP. I'll Xerox the first chapter for our first session, but you really want to have the book as soon as possible.

So, I'll need a precise list of people interested in the book. Putting your name here (use the 'comment on this' link) means you're committing to paying for the book, even if you drop out of the course at some point. Please don't screw me over by getting me stuck with books I've ordered for you. Couples who live together can probably share a single copy (the book doesn't have fill-in exercises).

State your name below if you want me to buy a book for you. Even if you already said so in my earlier post. Please say it again under this post, just so everything is perfectly clear. If you're just not sure, don't sign your name, and you'll be responsible for getting your own copy after you decide you're interested in the course. I'll only be making one concentrated purchase, and I'll be making it soon, i.e. by Monday. If, for any reason, you want more than one copy, state this clearly.

Thank you, and let's get this adventure going!
