Flowers in my hair?
There's a very good chance I'll be flying to California on business in about a week.

Whom shall I meet there?

What shall I bring you?

Can I afford another suitcase of books?

Join us next week, as we explore these questions and more.

update: I'll be flying out May 2nd, landing in Boston May 3rd. I'll spend a happy weekend there, and fly to San Francisco May 6th. I'll spend half a working week in San Mateo, with another happy weekend in SF/Berkeley. Then I'll work a little more, and fly back to Israel May 16th.

yet another update: I'm not coming to Boston after all. Due to changed circumstances, I'll be spending my weekend in Manchester, Connecticut.

Current Mood: pensive
Current Music: Funkapella - MegaBabe!

C.S. Lewish Galore

Oooh! Ooh! I need Lewis' three autobiographical works:
1) The Pilgrim's Regress
2) Surprised by Joy
3) A Grief Observed

Could that be, perhaps, possible?

Sure, I'll give it a shot.

Let the record show that Adam is making me enter a bookshop in the US, and that it was not of my own initiative.

Can you possibly get me a book called "Minds and Machines" by Anderson, Alan Ross?. This one is out of print and I have no chance of finding it in Israel.

Re:

Of course. Was the first place I went. It said that this book is out of print and two months are needed just to search for it (and then it's about the same amount of time until it gets to you). Plus there's the whole mess with the credit card which I don't have (and parents refusing to use theirs over the net), the shipping and the taxation.

Having someone bring it is much easier and faster.

Try abebooks . It's the biggest on line store for used books.

Guess what? I've just arranged for my trip to include a weekend in Boston! Yay!

I'll be arriving Fri. May 3rd, and flying to SF Mon. May 6th.

Holy Crap!

If you arrive at a decent hour, let's meet up on Friday night. Otherwise, I'm free the whole weekend, outside of Saturday morning.

moose.

Are you familiar with Michael Foreman's "Moose"?

If not - buy yourself a present. It's small, cute, and can be folded, leaving lots of space for poetry and lit.crit. books in your suitcase.
And it's just so lovely and optimstic and cute.

< First page: >

"Moose was just an ordinary Moose. He worked a little too hard, got cross in hot weather, and was poor. What he liked best was to sit outside in the cool of the evening and sing quietly to himself".

< Oh, it is lovely... it really is >

BERKELEY!

(Link)
hey, Ijon, if you can come to Berkeley, we can raid the secondhand bookstores here - there are tons of them, and all are wonderful. There's Moe's, which has 4 floors of books, there's Dark Carnival with everything fantastic (horror, sci-fi, mystery, comics, you get the picture), there's Serendipity books - the list goes on & on. Plus, good scenery & plenty of eateries. Or, I can meet you in San-Fran, but I don't know a lot of places there. so let me know :)

Ijon, I sent you an email about this, but you didn't reply. If you're going to meet my sister, can we possibly pass something through you to her? It's something small that doesn't take much space.
