Solemn Promise
Come semester break (mid-Jan to mid-Feb), I hereby solemnly promise to finally write about the trip to Poland. I'll write in Hebrew. But I'd really like my non-Hebrew-reading friends to be able to read those entries. I doubt I'd be able to translate myself (my perfectionism would never let me). I may hire a translator.

Current Mood: solemn
Current Music: Joni Mitchell -- Down To You

Can't wait...

I can't possibly assist with translating...(due to my un-perfect English)
However, I can't wait to read the full version of your journey to Poland.

Whoo hoo...
Semester break is coming up soon!

uncharacteristically inarticulate at the prospect...

Well, if I were to take up that challenge -- and I'm not sure I'd be available so soon, nor that I could afford your fees *vbg* -- it'd be a way of forcing me to read the Hebrew original...

If you do cast about for HE>EN translating assistance, though, please let me in on the auditions. I'd love to see if I'd meet your exacting standards (which might be even tougher than my own!?!... )

I'm ready to translate it for a reasonable fee.

Well, you know what I think about your perfectionism, gentle moose! Pray reconsider.

I'll do it happily, if you write it. Plain text much prefered to .doc.

(Hey! See you in three evenings!)

... to read that comment from you. There can never be a perfect translation. What would you deem to be perfect? Something that is most precise in description, something that captures the mood best, something that comes closest to the original's rhythm or rhyme or a translation that matches best the way you use to express yourself?

There can be only one original. Maybe that's why you try to avoid to translate it by yourself. But let others get caught in the trap...

I never suggested a perfect translation. I meant to say that my perfectionism would make it hard to translate at all, not to produce a perfect translation (a theoretical entity only).

Translation is not a trap. It is a vital service for humans to be able to understand each other. It is true that translating myself seems harder than translating others, but it is due to emotional rather than objective concerns, and these emotional concerns (about my text, that is) would most probably not hamper others from translating my text.
