Herrnstein-Smith

We've been assigned several chapters out of Barbara Herrnstein-Smith's book Poetic Closure (Chicago UP 1968), and the more I read her stuff, the more I like it. It's an excellent study of the techniques and phenomena of poetic closure (i.e. how poems end; how ends of poems are perceived and understood). Moreover, the writing is clear, concise, and makes a lot of sense to me.

Recommended reading if you're into sensible lit. crit.
